Trump Administration Asks Ambassador Kimberly Guilfoyle to Resign Over $100,000 Amex Bill Controversy

Ousted Ambassador Kimberly Guilfoyle Asked to Resign After Allegedly Seeking $100,000 From Donor, Trump Says Not Happy

WASHINGTON - US Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle has been asked to resign by the Trump administration after reports alleged she sought $100,000 from a Republican donor to pay an American Express bill.

According to reports, screenshots published by The Wall Street Journal allegedly show Guilfoyle texting donor Eric Deters in July 2025, just days before her confirmation hearing. The messages reportedly said, "It won't show up anywhere if you wire money to American Express" and "Honey please I need you to get this done for me today."

Donor Eric Deters told reporters the request was presented as a quid pro quo for access in Trump world, and said he never sent the money.

White House Press Secretary Katie Zacharia confirmed, "We have asked Ambassador Guilfoyle to resign. She has been a wonderful asset to the team and we wish her well." President Trump said, "We didn't like what we were reading" and added "She wasn't a member of my family. She dated my son a long time ago."

Guilfoyle denied the allegations, saying the money discussed was for unpaid fees for speaking engagements before her nomination, and called her tenure "the honour of a lifetime." The State Department is reviewing the matter.
