Selma Blair Charged With Two Counts of Second-Degree Assault After Delta Flight Incident

Hollywood actress Selma Blair, 54, known for Cruel Intentions and Legally Blonde, was arrested after an alleged violent episode on Delta Flight 938 from Los Angeles to New York's JFK Airport on Sunday, October 11.

According to police and media reports, Blair allegedly tried to open the aircraft door mid-flight. When flight attendants intervened, she allegedly punched one attendant and bit another, leaving lacerations. Two flight attendants reported injuries and one was taken to hospital.

The flight landed at JFK around 11 PM and Port Authority police responded. While being secured on a stretcher for medical transport, Blair allegedly kicked Port Authority Police Officer Maria Suarez repeatedly in the face, neck and chest, causing substantial pain and swelling. A registered nurse also alleged that Blair kicked her in the chest during transport.

Blair was taken to hospital for evaluation and then arrested. She was charged with two counts of felony second-degree assault and arraigned in Queens Criminal Court on Monday. She pleaded not guilty and was released on $20,000 cash bail. Her next court date is January 19, 2027. She faces 2 to 7 years in prison if convicted.

Her legal team says it was not an intentional assault. Attorney Shawn Barnes told the court that Blair had worked long exhaustive hours, missed doses of powerful medication for her multiple sclerosis, fell and hit her head on the plane, leading to severe confusion and disorientation.
