Katie Zacharia Out as White House Press Secretary After Just Five Days

President Donald Trump has fired Katie Zacharia as White House Press Secretary just five days into the job, making her the shortest-serving press secretary in White House history.

Zacharia took over the position from Karoline Leavitt, who left the role at the end of August. Her abrupt departure comes after a rocky debut at the press briefing room podium on Tuesday, October 13, where she took only three questions in under 15 minutes.

According to reports from CNN and USA TODAY, President Trump told reporters he had asked Zacharia to reconsider her role, saying “Maybe it’s not for her.” Five sources familiar with the decision confirmed she is “transitioning out” of the job.

Her appointment had drawn scrutiny over her background. Zacharia holds a law degree from Pepperdine University and worked as outside counsel in China, but questions were raised in media reports about her bar status.
