Hero Dad Kaylub Giamanco, 36, Takes Down 16-Year-Old Shooter Who Killed 3 Children and a Teacher in Oregon
BEND, OREGON - A father is being hailed as a hero after running toward gunfire and taking down a 16-year-old shooter who killed three children and a teacher at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, Oregon.
The hero has been identified as Kaylub Giamanco, 36, a local carpenter and father of two daughters who attend the school. He sprang into action, stopping the teenage gunman before officers arrived on the scene.
According to his brother Kyle Giamanco, Kaylub was driving home for his lunch break around 1:00 p.m. on Thursday when he heard gunshots. He saw the 16-year-old shooter running toward Silver Rail Elementary with a pump-action shotgun.
Holding a valid concealed-carry permit, Giamanco armed himself and ran toward the campus. The gunman stormed into a special education classroom where a teacher tackled him to protect students. Giamanco shot the gunman and prevented further loss of life.
Police confirmed three children ages 5, 8, and 11 and a teacher were killed. Two others are in critical condition.
Giamanco's family says he isn't looking for recognition. His mother said he is traumatized but proud. A GoFundMe for his family has raised over $41,000.
