Elon Musk Pledges $10.5 Billion in SpaceX Shares for American Children

Elon Musk Pledges One SpaceX Share for Every American Child in 2027

UNITED STATES — Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk has pledged to give one of his personal SpaceX shares to every child in the United States next year, a proposed giveaway estimated to be worth approximately $10.5 billion.

Musk announced the plan on October 19, 2026, in a post on his social media platform, X. He wrote that he would give one of his SpaceX shares to every child in America in 2027, adding that the initiative would be “the first of many.”

A Potential $10.5 Billion Giveaway

The estimated value of the pledge is based on SpaceX's closing share price of $146.03 on October 16 and an estimated 72 million children under the age of 18 in the United States. Using those figures, distributing one share to each child would represent a total market value of more than $10.5 billion.

The final value could change depending on SpaceX's share price when the shares are transferred and the number of children ultimately included in the program.

What Has Musk Announced So Far?

Musk has not yet provided details about how the proposed giveaway would operate. Questions remain about eligibility requirements, the method of transferring shares to minors, the timing of the distribution and whether recipients would need special investment accounts.

SpaceX has not publicly outlined a detailed distribution framework in connection with the pledge. Until additional information is released, the announcement should be understood as a public commitment rather than a completed share distribution program.

Announcement Follows Anthropic's Public-Benefit Plan

The pledge followed an announcement by artificial intelligence company Anthropic that it intends to commit 5% of its shares to a new public-benefit fund. Musk responded by suggesting that shares should be distributed directly to members of the public.

His subsequent announcement proposed giving SpaceX shares directly to American children, potentially allowing millions of young people to become shareholders in the aerospace company.

What It Could Mean for American Families

If implemented, the initiative would give eligible children a direct ownership stake in SpaceX. The eventual financial benefit would depend on the company's future share price, as stock values can rise or fall over time.

The pledge could become one of the largest proposed individual stock gifts to American children. However, its practical impact will depend on the distribution arrangements, legal requirements and eligibility rules that Musk or SpaceX may announce.

For now, families will have to wait for further details about when and how the promised shares would be delivered in 2027.
