Abdul El-Sayed Raises $2.4 Million After Haley Stevens Endorses Republican Rival

By NGN News English | November 2, 2026

WASHINGTON — Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed’s campaign in Michigan reported raising $2.4 million on Sunday, November 1, following a dramatic political development involving his former Democratic primary rival, Congresswoman Haley Stevens.

According to the El-Sayed campaign, more than 65,000 donors contributed to the fundraising effort in a single day, with an average donation of approximately $36.74. Nearly 29,600 contributors were reportedly making their first donations to the campaign.

The fundraising surge came after Stevens announced her endorsement of Republican Senate candidate Mike Rogers, just two days before Election Day. Stevens had previously competed against El-Sayed in the Democratic primary, which he won in August.

Her decision to support Rogers instead of the Democratic nominee triggered criticism from several Democratic leaders and intensified divisions within the party.

Stevens said she remained a proud Democrat but could not support El-Sayed. She cited disagreements with his political positions and associations, including his connection with online political commentator Hasan Piker.

El-Sayed, meanwhile, sought to keep attention on his campaign priorities and the issues affecting Michigan voters. His campaign spokesperson, Cole Wozniak, described the fundraising result as a record-breaking day for the campaign.

The campaign’s reported $2.4 million total represents its largest single-day fundraising haul. The announcement also highlighted the number of first-time contributors, suggesting that the controversy surrounding Stevens’s endorsement coincided with increased financial support for El-Sayed.

The Michigan Senate contest is among the closely watched races in the 2026 midterm elections. Republican candidate Mike Rogers is challenging El-Sayed for an open seat following Democratic Senator Gary Peters’ decision not to seek re-election.

The election is scheduled for November 3, with control of the Senate among the major issues at stake. The dispute between the former Democratic primary rivals has added another layer of attention to an already closely followed campaign.
